Dear Pine Grove Crossing Community,
We write this letter to update you regarding activities that have been underway since we communicated to you on the evening of May 11th, a few hours after we received the community’s first positive coronavirus (COVID-19) test result. As we are sure you are all concerned as we are, we can let you know that the resident who tested positive is now recovering comfortably at the hospital. We continue to stay in touch with the family on her status, and we will continue to keep the resident, their family and loved ones in our thoughts.
Beginning early yesterday morning, we performed a comprehensive contact tracing process to identify every associate and resident who came in contact with the positive coronavirus resident for the ten days prior to the onset of symptoms to present. We utilized interviews with associates, care plan documentation and video surveillance from our security system to identify the population requiring a test. In total, we have identified 50 total associates and residents who we believed came into contact with the positive resident during that time period. All of them have been tested for COVID-19. The total number of associates who have been tested is 37, and the total number of residents who have been tested is 13.
As of the date and time of this letter, we have received back 37 COVID-19 test results. Thirty-six of those results have come back negative, and one of the test results was returned positive. We can communicate to you that the one positive COVID-19 test result was an associate, and we have confirmed that this positive associate has cared for the positive resident multiple times over the initial contact tracing period. The COVID-19 positive associate has been, and still is, asymptomatic and is now quarantined at home. We will continue to stay in communication with this positive associate during the requisite quarantine period. We are awaiting the results of the other 13 residents and associates who have been tested, and we expect to have those results back by the end of the day tomorrow.
We are now cross-referencing the list of tested residents and associates to a second round of contact tracing that is currently underway now that we have a second person, the associate who provided care for the positive resident, who has tested positive. This second round of contact tracing will likely result in more residents and associates who should be tested, and a cross reference of the first round and second round of contact tracing is underway this evening. We will continue to perform additional testing on an urgent and time sensitive basis and are working closely with our testing lab to obtain those results as soon as possible. Testing that occurs tomorrow should have lab results back by the end of the day on Friday.
We have been in close communication with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and Tri-County Health Department and will follow their direction and protocols, as well as those of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Governor’s office and our Medical Consultant, Dr. Gagandeep Singh. We note that during our conversations with Tri-County Health Department today, they acknowledged that we were already performing all recommended and best practice procedures now that we have a positive COVID-19 case.
We appreciate your patience and support as we continue to methodically work through this situation. We do not currently have any other COVID-19 symptomatic residents nor associates who have pending test results as of the time of this letter. We will continue to update you on a regular basis as more information becomes available.
